Strong Teams 2014

20 pupils from the Nelson Mandela District School in Kirchdorf-South tackled photographically the subject “Strong Teams”. The project finished with an extensive Photo Exhibition at the school’s ‘Open Day’.

Mega cool! I would have liked to take photos for much longer. (Abdul)

EXPEDITION CUL-TOUR Photography – Learning by Doing! I/2013

Drop anchor here! Under the motto “Spreehafen – World of Encounters” young people from Wilhelmsburg were able to discover not only where their strengths and skills lie but at the same time see the port’s cultural region from a completely new perspective.

The subsequent photo exhibition anchored on the M/S Bleichen and was a wonderful experience for everyone involved:

I enjoyed taking pictures because I was able to show my creativity. (Ibo)

I learned how to use a camera and to bring my skills into the picture. (Yasemin)

I learnt how to work in a team and that I can rely on my friends. (Can)

I feel mentally and emotionally stronger. (Joshua)

EXPEDITION CUL-TOUR Photography – Learning by Doing! 2014

Curator and artist – in 1 person! During this autonomous photo-shooting the pupils not only showed their abilities in front of and behind the camera, but also proved their talent as exhibitors: After the shootings the children learnt in the Deichtorhallen literally how to ‘place their pictures in the best light’.
They then used these newly acquired skills to set up their own exhibition in the Günter Block Photography Workshop Gallery. And what did they like best about it?

Working in a team, being more self-confident. (Deborah)

After completing the project I enjoyed preparing the exhibition on our own and hearing about the talents we all have. I’ve learnt to see something through to the end.

EXPEDITION CUL-TOUR – I can do it! Special 2015

Under the sponsorship of the Action Group “I Can Do It!” young people from 13 years of age and above showed what they’re made of. The idea was to express themselves photographically, discover their own talents and provide a completely new perspective on the city of Hamburg.

And this is what the photographers said about the excursion:

Thanks to Genety I can concentrate better. (Fabio)

I learnt how to behave in a team in order to fulfill an assignment. (Nico)

EXPEDITION CUL-TOUR Photography – Learning by Doing! I/2015

That’s me! In this photographic biography project 25 pupils from the 9th grade set off with a camera to find their visual identity. The resulting photographs were presented in a final exhibition. The visitors were impressed by both the pictures and the skills of the young photographers:

I liked discussing my skills as it was all very positive. (Svenja)

I combined my ideas with those of my classmates and I proved that I can take good pictures. (Bleona)

EXPEDITION CUL-TOUR Photography – Learning by Doing! II/2015

“Who am I?, What am I capable of?, What is my goal?” Three questions which the pupils of the 4th and 6th grades were able to answer during a photo-shooting they organized themselves. Equipped with a camera and a large portion of motivation and creativity, all 23 children brought amazing results onto film – one of many reasons to be proud of themselves.

I proved I am able to work in a team when we were photographing each other because I did my best to take a good photo of the other person. (Zeynep)

During the competency exercises I helped the others find ideas. I was helpful and creative. It was a lot of fun. (Helin)

Expedition CUL-TOUR. Photography – Learning by Doing! III/2015

The pupils of the District School Wilhelmsburg gave some very personal answers to the questions “Who am I?, What am I capable of?, What is my goal?” at the photo exhibition they organized themselves in October. Before this, and with a great deal of commitment and creativity, they had ventured onto new ground and, under the direction of experienced photographers, had learnt how to take photos with professional equipment. The result was expressive pictures from which the pupils could select those photos they wished to further process.

I was self-confident so I just dared to make faces. (Sevval)

In this project I showed that I am open, helpful and creative. (Merve)

When photographing I showed my motivation. I spoke positively to my model and got her to laugh so that she made a positive impression on the photo. (Cihad)

Expedition CUL-TOUR. Photography – Learning by Doing! IV/2015

Imagine working with professional photographic equipment in a real photo studio, acting as both photographer and model at the same time: The 9th-grade pupils of the Nelson Mandela School in Kirchdorf were excited to be part of this project week in November under the motto “Who am I?, What am I capable of? What is my goal?” They proved that they were well able to handle unfamiliar assignments and proudly presented their very own personal portraits in a final exhibition.g.

We can do it!

I liked being able to move around freely during the project and I’m very proud of my portrait. (Taceddin)

I’m especially proud of my photo collage. Most effort went into the processing of the pictures (Burkan)
